Virtual Mohican Crawdad Derby

Calling all river enthusiasts!  The annual Mohican Crawdad Derby is going virtual with segments on crawdads and river creatures, what water bugs and microbes tell us about clean water and how you can get involved.

10:00am – Crawdad Hunting

No, it’s not a lobster – it’s a crawdad!  Join us to find out fun facts about these cool creek creatures form crawdad expert, Dr. Roger Thoma of the Midwest Biodiversity Institute.  Explore where they live, how to find (and hold) them, 
and why they can have one pincher that’s bigger than the other!  We’ll also announce the 
winner of the biggest crawdad contest!

11:00am – Keeping Water Clean: A Call to Action

Hey Citizen Scientists!  We need YOU!  Explore what water bugs can tell us about the health of our streams, how pollution gets to streams, tips on how you can prevent it and how to get involved.  Presented by Ohio Scenic Rivers and the 
Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District.

12:00 pm – Turtles and Creek Creatures

Let’s talk turtle!  Where do they live?  How do they survive?  What other creek creatures can you find living amongst Ohio’s aquatic turtles?  Park naturalists will answer these questions and more.
