SUMMARY:The Underground Railroad
DESCRIPTION:During the nineteenth century\, white abolitionists and slave and free blacks cooperated to help hide and transport runaway slaves on their dangerous journey to freedom. Ohio played a prominent role in this movement\, and this slide-illustrated presentation describes a history of the Underground Railroad and particular stations throughout Ohio. Presented by Cathy Nelson\, founder and president emeritus of the Friends of Freedom Society\, a nineteenth century historical research organization whose main focus is the underground railroad. Ms. Nelson has testified in Congress on behalf of the Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Act of 1997 and has won numerous awards and widespread recognition. This program is made possible in part by the Ohio Humanities Council\, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. This program will be held The Ohio Theatre on Monday\, April 15\, 2019 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Guests may use the rear entrance. \n\n\n\nFor more information call 419-994-4050 or visit www.crfmuseum.com
